Mental Health Week - Taking Care of Your Mental Health

Do you take care of your mind like you take care of your body? Our mental health can be just as important as our physical health. May  7-13 is this year’s National Mental Health Week, themed Mental Health for All and the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has invited everyone across Canada to celebrate this 61st anniversary. The annual awareness week encourages all people to learn, talk, reflect and engage with others on all issues relating to mental health and well-being.[[MORE]]Mental Health Week 2012 focuses on a variety of key topics. CMHA’s resources include Kids Have Stress Too! Which explores the sources of stress in children’s lives and ways parents can help. Resiliency: at Home, at School, and at Work provides assets to promoting resiliency, tips for how parents can build resiliency in their children, and workplace resiliency skills. Mental Health is Everyone’s Concern defines mental illness and its effects, including common myths about mental illness. Fact sheets in CMHA’s Understand Mental Health section provide simple ways to practice mental fitness, for all.Mental health is a crucial dimension of overall health and an essential resource for living. It influences how we feel, perceive, think, communicate and understand. Without positive mental health, people can be unable to fulfill their full potential or play an active part in everyday life. With positive mental health, people can enhance their emotional well being, as well as prevent against the onset of severe mental illnesses, chronic diseases such as hypertension and even suicide.As this week is coming to an end,   take time to learn about the importance of positive mental health, and how to achieve it in our daily lives.
