WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Dr. Ned Calonge knows firsthand how hard it is to tell Americans they'd be better off with fewer routine medical tests. A long-time family doctor in Colorado, Calonge presided over the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, an influential government-backed panel of health experts, when it said that most women under 50 could skip their regular mammograms. The recommendation two years ago challenged the conviction of many breast cancer patients that they survived precisely because they were screened early. ... read more..
